Festival at Tattoo Temple
I think one of the most bizzare festivals I have ever
attended in Thailand was the Tattoo Festival this weekend. This took
place at the renowned Wat Bang Phra temple in Nakhon Chaisi, about 50
kms west of Bangkok. This temple is famous for its magically charged
tattoos and amulets which can protect its wearer against harm and even
speeding bullets.... [more]

Openbilled Stork Temple
A few years back I heard about a temple on the banks of
the Chao Phraya River that has an invasion of openbilled storks during
our winter months. It has been on my list of places to visit for too
long and so I finally decided today that I should go and take a look.
Wat Phailom is in Pathum Thani which is a neighbouring province just
north of Bangkok.... [more]

Day Trip to Ayutthaya
Probably one of the better day trips from Bangkok is to the ancient
Thai capital of Ayutthaya. I have, of course, been there many times
though I have never been back since I started writing the Thai Travel Blogs.
So, last weekend I decided to head back there to explore the city a bit
better and also to take some new pictures... [more]

The Market on the Maeklong Railway
I have heard stories about the mysterious Maeklong Railway
that runs from Bangkok to Samut Songkhram. The
railway is not part of the national network. Not only that, but
there is only one narrow track which is broken about half way by a river. Here
you have to disembark and cross to the other side by boat. Then, at the far end
you will find that the train tracks double as a market... [more]

Thai Human Imagery Museum
The Thai Human Imagery Museum is the Thai response to the famous Madame
Tussauds in London. However, the sculptures featured in this museum are not made
from wax for obvious reasons. Instead, the artists made them from fibre glass.
The first figure was created in the early 1980's.
More were to follow. The attention to detail is amazing and I had to look twice
as I thought they were real people at first.... [more]

Don Wai Market
I am really happy that the Kanchanapisek Outer Ringroad has been finished. It now allows us to easily explore tourist attractions around the perimeter of Bangkok quickly and easily. So, last weekend I set off on a day trip to Nakhon Pathom, to the West of Bangkok. My destination was Don Wai Market. Some people call this a floating market. However, strictly speaking, it is a market on the banks of the Nakhon Chaisi River.... [more]

A TRIP TO KOH KRET
A few days back I went upriver from
Bangkok to Nonthaburi Province by public boat. My intention was not to
just view the scenery but also to make my way up to an island called
Koh Kret. I had heard about this place for several years now and wanted
to go and visit for myself. It sounded mysterious. An island in the
middle of the Chao Phraya River? How could that be? [more]

BANGKOK BEACH
In the spirit of adventure, I decided to kick off the new month by
going somewhere that not many people have gone before. I went to the
beach in Bangkok! Yes, you heard right. Bangkok actually has a
beachside resort. Not many people know that. It is not even in the
Lonely Planet. I first heard about it last year and then I saw a brief
mention on tv the other day which reminded me. So, I decided to go and
do some exploring...... [more]
