I always thought my trip to the Ancient city was one of my high lights in my visit to Thailand. I only had about 3 hours there touring on a bicycle, the best way I think, I wish I had of got there earlier and spent the whole day there. My Former Thai girlfriend who was mostly depressed, that is her personality, she was smiling for the first time that day we went to the Ancient City, and said she enjoyed it so much, she wanted to go back some other time. Hopefully I will get to go there again some day, and see what I missed out on, as 3 hours is not enough. - paul_au

It's nice to read this. I took my wife and her brother and sister through Meuang Boran in November, which was the last thing we did on our holiday. We had been to Sukhothai and Ayutthaya as part of our trip, so I thought this might be a bit of a waste, but it was really impressive. The Ayutthayan reproduction temple ruins actually give a good idea of what Ayutthaya would have been like before restoration of the ruins took place.
We spent the whole day looking through, and still missed things. By mid afternoon I was ready to quit but my wife forced us to keep going.
Thai people generally don't seem very interested in tourist activities, but after this my mother in law was on the phone wanting to know if she could come next time. - Graham

Nice pictures and good information. Is built like the map of Thailand, each building on its geographic position. I was there in january 2006 and loved it. Spent whole day with bicycle.

When going back to Bangkok, we visit kind of museum-elephant with many heads.
In summer 2006 I was in Ayutthaya and spent there whole day with bicycle and visit many temple.

My next trip in february 2007 is a 4-day trip to Laos. I will stay for 2weeks in Ubon Ratchathani.. - Graham Noel

I have spent the past month in Thailand and certainly found the Ancient City and the Three Headed Elephant highlights of my experience. I spent 2 weeks alone and 16 days on an organized tourist tour. I enjoyed the Thai hospitality at these sites much more than the promoted major attractions. When I got off a bus from the Hostel 38 Sukumvit (truly an asset for meeting Thais and visitors from around the world who like to chat and compare notes)I recommended these sites and showed them how to get there. When I got off the first bus and was hunting the 2nd, I finally found some school girls who giggled, covered their faces, and wouldn't speak English. I told them that I was an English teacher and wouldn't bite them, so ended up with an escort of 12 girls across a very busy intersection, through a large indoor market and out to the next street and to the open-air van to the Ancient City. When there, quite late, the first girl handed me a ticket for 200 and then said golf cart would be 500. I said, hmm maybe I should come back since it was late, and she exchanged my ticket for a child's 100 and sent me off to the cart. I wasn't trying to bargain and was surprized pleasantly at her kindness and found this so many times in my wanderings. I'd look at the lines of traffic, and then at the faces of Thais next to me and they would take my arm and propel me across safely. This was my third trip and Richard's accounts were a deciding factor in places to visit and understanding of the people and culture. Thank you and keep up your writing. It does much more for the Thais than CNN (very slanted) BBC(doesn't give timely details)and the Tourist Board. - Carol Brown

I must admit that I my initial expectation was that the park would be a little on the 'tacky' side - but no, it was very professionally executed with some definite highlights. You really need at least half a day (and an early start) to fully appreciate everything. I went during the week and it was really peaceful until around 10am when school tours arrived. Rates for the golf carts were a bit high though. I will be posting some photos of my visit there on my Filckr photostream soon. - I Prahin
