I visited the market in December 07. We left Huai Khwang at 5.30 in the morning and arrived while the stalls were being set up for the days sale. The food here is a reasonable price and there is plenty of fresh food to choose from. We had an early lunch at a restaraunt that specialised in Duck, the food was very tasty and cheap. I only saw one other falang while I was there. I will be going back to these markets as I had a pleasent experience there.
Great article Richard - Pete111

hello sawasdee. This is the first time I visit BKKdaytrips and its a great site! Just a tip-off/link from some other site I was visiting. It lists many places i did not know of, even though I visit BKK snce 20 yrs. However, I have 1 main comment: not everyone has a car, not every single person is willing to shell out for a taximeter to places out of BKK (like Don Wai or Damnn Saduak etc.), so any bus info please? In my experience, any place CAN be reached by bus/truck/whatever, but needs patience. And not any Thai has a car either. If I find some time, I intend to read more postings/destibnations and add this if I happen to know. krap. - d.vis

hello again then: this info i got from the BKK-tourist offfice for how to get there:
1.on weekends there will be demand from BKK-city for those direct minivans (minibus) that serve sai 4/5 etc to go directly: from either PATA dept.store or the new tescoLotus/Central Pinklao a little furhter on, Thonburi side. Have still to find out which one is best. Arr. there around 8.30/9.00 for shortest time to fill van. Cost about 40/50 bt/single, pay driver.
2.As this market (as I now have found out) sits between the old and the new roads to NPathom, both can be used:
from OLD=Phetkasem road: citybus 123 from Snm Luang goes to rose garden/Crocodile, and stops OM NOi and YAI; change there (ask conductor) to a big blue songhthaew. best place for this is the brandnew BigC at om Noi.
from new=Nakorn Chaisri Rd: take bus 997 to NPathom from still!! the now OLD SAI THAI (bus 511), tell conductor your plan, and s/he will point where to get off and catch whatever there is in onward transpo. - d.vis

Richard - love your blog. Is this market open everyday and what time closing? How long would it take to get there from Thewet - we will have a Thai guide so directions should be OK. - Narelle
