			<description>Just a small correction. Farang means white foreigner -- not white devil.  Nobody is quite sure why the word farang is in use but there are two popular theories.  The first is that the Thai word for France is Farangset.  It is thought that perhaps all white people were thought to be French. 

The other theory is that the word Farang means Guava.  Some believe that the word Farang was used to describe the look of a European nose.

When I first came to Thailand, farang was only used to describe white people.   when I was in the Army, the Thais called black soldiers farang dam which means black farang.  Today,  hear the word farang used to describe all foreigners that are not Asian.
