Thanks for an excellent description of this attraction, Richard. However, I feel the ridiculously high entrance fee for foreigners (compared to Thais) is likely to deter visitors at a time when foreign currencies are dropping against the Baht. - Khun Don

Thanks for an excellent report. I had heard before about Samphran elephant ground but wasn't sure whether it was worth a trip out there. It is expensive but I think it is worth it. I might go on my next trip. - Jackie

Yes 500 baht is expensive, but on my last visit to Australia's Gold Coast, I went to attractions such as Sea World and Movie World and they were the equivalent cost of 1,600 Baht entry fee each, now that's starting to make Samphran Elephant Ground and Zoo seem not to bad value for the Australian tourist, but on the other hand I think the Thai price should also be the same as the foreign price. If they mad the Thai price and the foreign price at 150 baht I think that would be fair on every one, as I have to add my airfare on top to come and see the show.. I'm also happy to see, that in the bottom photo, the man sitting on the middle elephant is holding an Australian Flag. - paul_au

i cant see why there should not be different prices for foreigners, given the low income of many thais as opposed to foreign tourists.

sure, i agree 500 baht is too much, yet it is still affordable for anyone who spends ten thousands of baht on a flight, and not rarely a thai bus drivers monthly income for a couple of nights in a hotel in bangkok...

again, this is not true for all travelers in thailand, but honestly, the park really caters rather to the package tourist, and most of the better attractions there are available to the individual traveler in many places in the kingdom anyways, sometimes more authentic and even for nothing.
